Neil L. Hanley

Neil L. Hanley is a highly experienced litigator, having tried hundreds of jury trials during more than 38 years of practicing law. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in political science from the University of Alabama in 1971, Neil went on to graduate from the University of Alabama Law School in 1975 and was admitted to the Alabama Bar the same year.

Neil’s first job out of law school was with the renowned Alabama criminal defense attorney Tom Haas. Under the tutelage of Mr. Haas, Neil practiced extensively in state and federal courts on a number of high-profile cases ranging from white collar crimes to large drug cases and murder trials. In 1979, Neil was tasked by Mobile County District Attorney Chris Galanos to serve as the latter’s Chief Assistant DA. Over the next two years Neil assisted Mr. Galanos in running the County’s prosecution team and tried over 50 jury trials, including numerous homicide and two capital murder cases.

Neil reentered private practice after leaving the District Attorney’s Office in 1981. Since that time, he has continued his practice in Alabama state and federal courts; as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. Neil has a large criminal and domestic law practice, of which federal criminal trial work constitutes a substantial portion. In the past several years, Neil has tried a number of high-profile federal cases including healthcare fraud, anti-trust violations, public official honest services cases, and multi-defendant drug conspiracies. Neil is a member of both the Alabama and Mobile Bar Associations, as well as the Alabama and Mobile Criminal Defense Lawyers Associations and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.
